Rio Rapids SC is proud to announce that 87 of its alumni (49 females and 38 males) were a part of college soccer programs throughout the country during the Fall of 2014. Twenty of these players helped their team reach post-season tournaments with Azure Dorsey (93’s) and Mackenzie Miller (95’s) key contributors for the Rollins College (FL) team that made it all the way to the NCAA Division 2 championship game, Andres Delgadillo (96’s) helping the Colorado Mesa University team to the NCAA Division 2 Final Four, Mackenzie King (93’s) contributing for the Colorado School of Mines team that made it to the NCAA Division 2 Final Four, David Ayala (96’s) helping the Trinidad State Junior College (CO) team to the NJCAA Division 1 Semifinals and Elliot Farmer (94’s) a part of the University of California-Irvine team that made the NCAA Division 1 Sweet Sixteen. In addition, ten players helped lead their teams to conference championships.
Many of these players received individual honors for their outstanding play. Azure Dorsey was named to the NCAA Division 2 All-America 2nd Team. Christian Albrecht (94’s) of Norwich University (VT), Emily Cubbage (94’s) of St. John’s University (NY), Luke Lawrence (95’s) of Fort Lewis College (CO) and Ashley Williams (94’s) of the University of Kansas were selected to All-Region teams. Nineteen players were named to their All-Conference team with Christian Albrecht recognized as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Defender of the Year, Debbie Arguelles (91’s) of Prairie View A&M University (TX) honored as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Defender of the Year, Theodore Hooker (96’s) of Colorado College selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and Eliska Saiz (96’s) of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (IN) named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
A number of players also received individual honors for excellence in the classroom. Nine players were named to All-Academic Teams by their Conference and two were recognized at the regional/national level: Emily Cubbage was honored as NSCAA University Division Scholar All-East Region 2nd Team and Sidney Jones (93’s) of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (AZ) was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
