Respect

What is Respect?

Respect is the collective responsibility of everyone in soccer to create a fair, safe and enjoyable environment in which the game can take place.

Parents play an important role in respect for their children, not only with their words but with their actions. Children will often replicate what they see their parents do. So with this in mind, spectators should:

  • Keep the game fun. Remember why they play the game.
  • Encourage and support.
  • Respect referees, opposition players, opposition supporters and coaches.
  • Stay in assigned areas.
  • Let the coach coach.
  • Be encouraging – avoid criticism for any mistakes. Don’t dissect the game with your child in the car on the way home. Only discuss the game if they bring it up.
  • Never engage in or tolerate offensive, insulting or abusive language or behavior.
