Rio Rapids SC is proud to announce that 75 of its alumni (52 women and 23 men) were a part of 43 college soccer programs throughout the country during the Fall of 2018. Fifteen of these players were a part of teams that earned trips to the national tournament. Luca Seazzu (99/00’s) was a part of the Calvin College (MI) team that finished as NCAA Division 3 runner-up. Calista Cordero (98/99’s) and Cheyenne Orozco (98/99’s) started for the West Texas A&M team that advanced to the NCAA Division 2 quarterfinals. Ryan Hunter (97’s) was a contributor in the run to the NCAA Division 3 quarterfinals for Trinity University (TX). Andrea Seazzu (98’s) was the starting goalkeeper for Air Force (CO) as they advanced to the NCAA Division 1 sweet 16. Caitlin Christiansen (97’s) started in goal for the Hardin-Simmons (TX) team that made it to the NCAA Division 3 sweet 16. Chris Lopez-Manning (99/00’s) was a part of the Colorado Mesa team that advanced to the NCAA Division 2 sweet 16.
Other players helping their teams advance to the 2nd round of the national tournament were: Cassie Boren (97’s) at Texas Tech in NCAA Division 1, Rebekah Carr (98/99’s) at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (AZ) in the NAIA, Mikaela Montoya (99/00’s) at Point Loma Nazarene (CA) in NCAA Division 2, as well as Dominique Rivera (97’s) and Tristan Semelsberger (99/00’s) at Colorado Mines in NCAA Division 2. Other players whose teams earned bids to the NCAA tournament include: Caity Acosta (97’s) at Abilene Christian (TX) in NCAA Division 1, Owen Keleher (99/00’s) at Knox College (IL) in NCAA Division 3 and Alex Newell (97’s) at Southwestern University (TX) in NCAA Division 3. Thirteen players helped their teams win conference championships.
Many of these players received individual honors for their outstanding play. Seven players earned regional recognition: Corey Carabajal (96 Reds) of UC Colorado Springs – D2CCA NCAA Division 2 All-South Central 2nd Team & USC NCAA Division 2 All-South Central Region 3rd Team, Alexa Genas (98’s) of Campbell University (NC) – North Carolina All-State 1st Team, Jessie Hix (98’s) of UNM – USC NCAA Division 1 All-Pacific 3rd Team, Lauren Milliet (97’s) of Colorado College – USC NCAA Division 1 All-Pacific 2nd Team, Cheyenne Orozco of West Texas A&M – USC & D2CCA NCAA Division 2 All-South Central 1st Team, Andrea Seazzu of Air Force – USC NCAA Division 1 All-Far West 2nd Team, Alex Touche (98/99’s) of Penn – USC NCAA Division 1 All-Northeast 3rd Team and Charles Touche (98/99’s) of Cornell (NY) – USC NCAA Division 1 All-Northeast 3rd Team.
Thirteen players were selected to their all-conference teams with men named in the Ivy League (2), RMAC (2), Southern Collegiate and WAC and women named in the Mountain West (2), American Southwest, Big South, Lone Star, Midwest and Southwestern. Cheyenne Orozco was also named the Lone Star Conference Defender of the Year and Andrea Seazzu was recognized as the WAC Defensive Player of the Year. Charles Touche led Cornell and the Ivy League in scoring.
A number of players also received individual honors for excellence in the classroom. Eight players were named to All-Academic Teams by their Conference. Grant Rowe (97’s) of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (AZ) was named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete. Tankred Steinbach (98’s) of UC-Colorado Springs was recognized as the RMAC Summit Award winner for having the highest GPA of all players in the RMAC tournament. Cheyenne Orozco was also honored as a member of the Google Cloud NCAA Division 2 Academic All-District 6 1st Team.
